Bamdev Gautam backs party merger, says he will follow Madhav Nepal

KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Bamdev Gautam has expressed his support for the party’s merger with the CPN (Maoist Center). He said he will stand wherever party chair Madhav Kumar Nepal goes.

Gautam stated that the merger among several communist parties,  including the Maoist Center, Unified Socialist, Nepal Samajwadi Party, and Nepal Communist Party, is likely to be finalized on November 4, and he will be part of the unified force.

“Madhav Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ and other leaders are holding discussions about leadership roles and responsibilities after the merger,” Gautam told Khabarhub. “I have not demanded any position, but I expect to be given a respectable role.”

Just a while ago, Gautam had said in an interview with Khabarhub that he would not go along with Maoist chair Prachanda. However, he has now softened his stance, saying his earlier remarks were made before the current merger efforts began.

“I had said I wouldn’t go with Prachanda, but this is not about joining him. This is about uniting the communist parties,” Gautam clarified. “I have always been in favor of communist unity.”
