Govt reiterates dialogue as path to solve Lipulekh issues



KATHMANDU: The government has reiterated its commitment to resolving border disputes with India, including issues related to Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani, through diplomatic dialogue, according to Cabinet spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung.

Speaking on Monday after a Cabinet meeting, Gurung stated that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli conveyed Nepal’s position on the recent India-China agreement on trade via the Lipulekh pass to his Chinese counterpart.

In response, the Chinese President emphasized that the matter concerns Nepal and India, and China will not interfere. He also affirmed that Nepal’s territory must not be encroached upon due to mutual understanding between the two countries.

Gurung also briefed on other key decisions taken during the Cabinet meeting held on Bhadra 13. These include the approval of 58 temporary officer-level positions for two commissions on transitional justice for the current fiscal year, ratification of the ninth amendment to the rules on property confiscation, and approval of the Third National Strategy for Public Financial Management Reform.

Additionally, the Cabinet decided to adjust the boundaries of She-Foksundo National Park and the adjoining buffer zones, as well as declare Chhayanath National Park and its buffer zones.

In judicial appointments, the Cabinet approved the nomination of Justice Munendra Prasad Awasthi of the High Court, Tulsipur bench, Nepalgunj, as the chairperson and law member of the Revenue Tribunal, Nepalgunj.
