KATHMANDU: Nepal is observing Gen-Z Martyrs’ Day today, with a nationwide public holiday declared in memory of the young people who lost their lives during last year’s Gen-Z movement.
The Gen-Z movement on August 8 and 9, 2025 triggered major political upheaval in the country. The movement led to the dissolution of the then government and the formation of an interim government under the leadership of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki.
The government has declared a nationwide public holiday today to commemorate and honor the young people who lost their lives during the movement. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on 18 Bhadra decided to declare a public holiday across the country on September 8.
