IFC and FNCCI explore collaboration for economic growth

KATHMANDU: The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) have held discussions aimed at enhancing Nepal’s economic development, employment generation, and mutual cooperation.

During a meeting at the FNCCI Secretariat, IFC South Asia Regional Head Gregory Smith and FNCCI Vice President Hem Raj Dhakal exchanged views on strengthening partnership and coordination between the two institutions.

Smith emphasized IFC’s readiness to collaborate with FNCCI in support of Nepal’s economic advancement. He noted that the IFC is committed to engaging in knowledge-sharing partnerships, capacity building for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and creating meaningful employment opportunities for youth to bolster the private sector.

FNCCI Vice President Dhakal acknowledged previous collaborations with the IFC, especially in the SME sector, and thanked the organization for its continued support.

“The joint report, State of Nepal’s Private Sector (2022), prepared by FNCCI and IFC, remains a key resource. It has played a guiding role in policy-making and investment by identifying strengths, challenges, and opportunities within Nepal’s private sector,” he said.

Also speaking at the meeting, Manoj Poudel, Chair of FNCCI’s Investment and International Affairs Forum, highlighted the private sector’s contributions in tourism, IT, agriculture, education, and health.

He expressed optimism that collaboration with the IFC would further enhance technical and institutional capacity, particularly in financial access, green economy promotion, digital transformation, and SME development.
