UML aims to increase party membership to 750,000 by Statute General Convention

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has announced its plan to expand party membership to 750,000 ahead of its upcoming Statute General Convention.

Declaring this year as the “year of internal party strengthening,” Organization Department Secretary Madhav Dhungel said the party has set a target to increase membership to 6 percent of the total number of voters by the time of the convention.

According to Dhungel, instructions have been issued to finalize new memberships and renewals and submit them to provincial committees by the end of the Nepali month of Baisakh (mid-May).

“We’ve directed district committees to complete all membership-related processes within this month and forward them to the provincial level,” he said. “The provincial committees are then expected to submit the compiled data to the central office by the first week of Jestha.”

Currently, the UML has around 550,000 registered members. “Our goal is to reach 750,000 members by the convention,” Dhungel added.

The UML’s Statute General Convention is scheduled to take place from September 5-7, 2025.
