RSP halts protests until Chhath festival
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has postponed its ongoing protests against the arrest of Chairman Rabi Lamichhane until after the Chhath festival.
Lamichhane is currently in custody, but the party plans to continue its agitation in Kaski.
According to DP Aryal, the coordinator of the movement and RSP Vice Chairman, protests outside Kaski have been suspended to focus on the celebrations of Tihar and Chhath.
Aryal stated, “Our friends have indicated that a sit-in will take place in Kaski even on the day of Bhaitika. However, the protests in other districts, including Kathmandu, will be paused until Chhath.”
Rabi Lamichhane to face investigation in Butwal for cooperative fraud after Tihar
Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), will be taken to Butwal for investigation soon after Tihar.
This move is in connection with a complaint of fraud involving the Supreme Cooperative of Butwal.
The custody period granted by the District Court of Kaski expired on Wednesday.
Since the court will be closed from Thursday, the police will seek an extension when the court reopens.
Gold prices reach all-time high
Gold prices have surged to an unprecedented level today.
Following today’s increase, the price of gold has reached its highest point ever after a continuous upward trend.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Traders, the Tihar festival, one of Nepal’s largest celebrations, has contributed to the record rise in gold prices.
NOC reduces price of diesel and kerosene
Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has reduced the price of diesel and kerosene by one rupee per litre with effect from midnight today.
With the price adjustment, diesel will cost 147 rupees 50 paisa per category A, 149 rupees for B and 150 rupees per litre for category C.
Finance Minister returns from World Bank and IMF annual meetings
Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel returned to Nepal today after attending the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) held in the United States.
During the meetings, Minister Paudel urged the international community to make global financial mechanisms for climate finance more accessible and efficient.
He also called on development partners and the global community to be responsible and sensitive regarding climate justice and requested the effective operation of the Loss and Damage Compensation Fund established for climate justice.
Two killed in tipper accident in Sankhuwasabha
Two Indian laborers working on the Arun III Hydropower Project lost their lives in a tipper accident at Faksinda Dobhan, Makalu Rural Municipality-5, on Wednesday evening.
The accident involved a tipper truck with license plate HP 11-4933, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Daksha Kumar Basnet from the District Police Office.
The deceased were identified as 57-year-old Shailendra Pratap Singh, the driver, and 29-year-old Sarukh Mohammad, both Indian nationals working on the Arun III project.
Krishna Mahara’s son Rahul released after 14 months in jail for gold smuggling case
Rahul Mahara, the son of former Speaker, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, has been released from prison after serving 14 months.
He was released on Tuesday, as confirmed by Hobindra Bogati, Spokesperson for the Central Investigation Bureau of Police.
Rahul was incarcerated at the Central Jail and was released after fulfilling the prison sentence imposed by the Kathmandu District Court.
He was implicated in a case involving the smuggling of 9 kg of gold.

PM Oli congratulates Nepali Women’s football team in Baluwatar
Prime Minister KP Oli welcomed the members of the Nepali Women’s National Football Team at his official residence in Baluwatar.
In a Facebook post sharing a photo from the meeting, he expressed, “On Laxmi Puja day, I am honored to be with the Laxmis of Nepali football.”
This meeting took place after the team’s performance in the SAFF Women’s Championship final, where they played against Bangladesh on Wednesday evening, concluding the match with a score of 2-1, and secured the runners-up position.
