KATHMANDU: Nepal’s aspirations for reaching the semi-finals of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup have come to an end, with India and Pakistan securing victories in the Super Six stage matches on Tuesday.
Despite not having played Super Six stage match yet, Nepal’s hopes of advancing to the semi-finals have been dismissed.
In the recent Super Six matches, India dominated New Zealand with a convincing 214-run victory, limiting New Zealand to only 81 runs.
Pakistan also emerged triumphant, defeating Ireland by three wickets.
With these wins, India and Pakistan are likely to secure their spots in the semi-finals, while Bangladesh’s chances hang in the balance. Bangladesh needs substantial victories against Nepal and Pakistan in the upcoming matches to advance.
In the Super Six stage, each team plays only two matches. Nepal faces Bangladesh and will take on India on February 2.
Even if Nepal secures victories in both matches, they will only have four points in the points table.
Teams from Groups A and D, including India, Bangladesh, Ireland, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Nepal, form one Super Six group, while those from Groups B and C make up the other.
India leads with five U19 Cricket World Cup titles, followed by Australia with three, Pakistan with two, and Bangladesh, South Africa, West Indies, and England with one title each.
