No rift between Nepali Congress and CPN-UML over BRI issue: Deputy PM Prakash Man Singh

POKHARA: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh has stated that the issue of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) will not create problems within the government.

Speaking at a program organized by the Nepali Congress Gandaki Province in Pokhara on Saturday, he emphasized that there is no significant difference in opinion between the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML regarding the BRI.

Highlighting the country’s economic constraints, Singh said the Nepali Congress currently supports grants over loans, as the nation’s economy cannot sustain additional debt.

He added that while loans could be taken for projects if the repayment capacity exists, the current situation does not favor immediate borrowing.

Singh further mentioned that the agenda for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming China visit has been jointly prepared by the Congress and UML.

He also noted that the government is working to secure grants previously pledged by China.

Dismissing rumors of instability, Singh assured that the government remains intact.

“Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is known for his honesty, and the Prime Minister has reiterated that power will be transferred as per the agreement,” Singh said. “There are no issues within the government.”
