MYAGDI: A significant milestone has been reached in the Rahughat Hydroelectricity Project with the successful breakthrough of the main tunnel.

This project, which will have a capacity of 40 megawatts, is being constructed in Raghuganga Rural Municipality, Myagdi district.

It is a subsidiary project of the Nepal Electricity Authority, with Raghuganga Hydropower as its promoter.

The main tunnel, stretching 6,270 meters, begins at the dam located at the base of Dagnam in Rural Municipality-4 and concludes at Tilkenichaur in Rural Municipality-3, according to Project Managing Director Ganesh KC.

The breakthrough was achieved by dividing the tunnel into four sections, known as audits.

The significant event was marked by Raghuganga Rural Municipality Chairman Bhawa Bahadur Bhandari and Managing Director Ganesh KC, who jointly initiated the final breakthrough by pushing a switch in the 2,332-meter-long section linking the dam and Audit No. 2 at Agherikhola.

The tunnel has 875 meters excavated from Audit 1 and 1,458 meters from Audit 2.

Additionally, lining works are currently underway on the 3,836-meter-long Audit 2 and Audit 3 sections, which were previously completed last March.

Chairman Bhandari expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the tunnel, emphasizing its significance as a major component of the project.

He acknowledged the facilitation and coordination efforts provided by the Rural Municipality in the project’s progress.

The Rahughat Hydropower Project is being developed with a concessional loan of 67 million USD from the Indian EXIM (Export-Import) Bank, along with joint investment from the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and the Government of Nepal.

The contract agreement for the project’s construction was signed with civil contractors Jaiprakash Associates (JP) in 2074 BS (2017 AD).
