KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Prasad Saud, expressed Nepal’s readiness to welcome Korean investors and entrepreneurs in large numbers during the upcoming third Investment Summit scheduled for April 28 and 29.
Speaking at an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the Republic of South Korea, Minister Saud emphasized the country’s eagerness to witness increased investment from Korean companies.
He specifically mentioned leading Korean firms like Samsung and Hyundai Motors, expressing the government’s commitment to seize investment opportunities if these companies express interest in exploring opportunities in Nepal.
Minister Saud highlighted the tremendous potential for economic cooperation between the two nations, urging exploration of opportunities to enhance bilateral trade and investment. He emphasized strengthening partnerships in agriculture, energy, tourism, and information technology.
Acknowledging the significant presence of Nepali migrant workers and students in South Korea and the influx of South Korean tourists to Nepal, Minister Saud pledged to expand such exchange programs.
Diplomatic relations between Nepal and the Republic of Korea were established on May 15, 1974, and Minister Saud observed that the relationship has strengthened over time, based on friendship, cordiality, cooperation, and mutual benefit.
Minister Saud expressed Nepal’s eagerness to learn from South Korea’s success stories in progress and prosperity achieved in a short span. Nepal aims to enhance partnerships in areas of mutual benefit, leveraging the lessons from South Korea’s development experience.
Kewal Prasad Bhandari, Secretary at the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, praised South Korea’s prioritization of Nepalis in the employment sector. He believed that the skills, knowledge, and experience gained by Nepali workers in South Korea would contribute significantly to Nepal’s development.
South Korean Ambassador to Nepal, Park Tae-Young, emphasized the 50-year journey as a story of shared values, mutual respect, and commitment to building a better future.
He congratulated leaders and citizens of both countries on reaching this historic milestone and highlighted the strong bond and cooperation between South Korea and Nepal.
During the event, Minister Saud and Ambassador Park jointly unveiled the logo commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and launched a book titled ‘Tapain Pani Malik Banna Saknu Huncha (You Can Also Become A Master),’ showcasing success stories of Nepali migrant workers from South Korea’s Employment Permit System (EPS) program.
