NC urges respectful campaigns, discourages insults against rivals

KAHTMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has unveiled its official guidelines for the upcoming (March 5) general election, emphasizing respectful competition and discouraging personal attacks on rival candidates.

During a virtual meeting of the Central Work Execution Committee held today, the party approved the ‘Nepali Congress Election Mobilization Guidelines 2082’.

NC Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma, coordinator of the Central Election Mobilization Committee, led the formulation of the guidelines.

According to the guidelines, the Nepali Congress has adopted a policy of refraining from insulting candidates of other parties.

“The Nepali Congress adopts a policy of making constructive comments about competing parties and their candidates. When criticism is necessary, it should be based on thematic arguments and not personal insults,” the guidelines state.

The guidelines further emphasize that the election field is not an arena of hostility but a platform for the healthy competition of ideas and personalities.

“No party or candidate in the election field is an enemy of the Nepali Congress. Through our conduct, we aim to promote a culture of respectful competition,” the directive adds.

The party also stresses the responsibility of all political actors to maintain a healthy and cordial election environment while actively engaging in fair competition.

“Our candidates and campaigners will refrain from making hateful, provocative, or inflammatory statements. While normal and constructive sarcasm is natural in elections, our public presentation will remain restrained and mature,” the guidelines state.

The Nepali Congress has candidates in 165 constituencies, with the election scheduled for March 5, 2026.
