Artists gather to pay emotional tribute to Sunil Thapa



KATHMANDU: The body of veteran actor Sunil Thapa, who passed away on Saturday, was brought to the Film Development Board, where artists and fans paid homage. Thapa, who was rushed to Norvic Hospital in Thapathali after experiencing sudden health complications, died on Saturday morning.

According to Mohan Niraula, President of the Artists’ Association of Nepal, Thapa passed away due to a heart attack. Widely recognized for his powerful portrayals of villainous roles in Nepali cinema, he was popularly known as ‘Raate Kainla’.

Thapa had an extensive career in both the Nepali and Indian film industries and had been residing in an apartment in Shankhamul, Kathmandu. He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter, whose family members live in Mumbai, India.

On Sunday, his body was kept at the Film Development Board, where numerous artists, including Gauri Malla and Wilson Bikram Rai, gathered to pay their respects. Emotions ran high as colleagues and admirers remembered Thapa’s contributions to Nepali cinema.
