Economic diplomacy is govt’s top priority: Foreign Minister Shrestha

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has asked Nepal’s diplomatic missions abroad to work proactively for export expansion, tourism promotion and foreign employment management since the government attaches top priority to economic diplomacy.

The Foreign Minister said so while virtually addressing Nepal’s Ambassadors and Mission Chiefs.

On the occasion, Shrestha drew the attention of Nepali Ambassadors to work by being sensitive to the professional welfare and security concerns of Nepali migrant workers in the countries of destination.

The Foreign Minister pointed out the gaps in foreign investment commitment and the actual inflow of foreign investments and asked the diplomatic missions to be mobilized to secure the FDI and foreign assistance as per the commitments.

Reminding the ambassadors of the recently held Third Investment Summit, the Deputy Prime Minister also directed the diplomatic missions abroad to establish contacts with the foreign participants present in the Third Investment Summit and share about investment potentials in Nepal.

Likewise, Foreign Minister Shrestha urged the Ambassadors to remain proactive in exploring the international market for Nepal’s exportable goods; inspire potential investors to make investments in Nepal and establish Nepal as a lucrative investment destination.

Similarly, Shrestha asked the ambassadors to work for publicity and promotion of Nepal in the world as a preferred tourism destination.
