KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader and former Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that hydropower is the major area of investment in Nepal.
“India has signed a long-term agreement to take in 10,000 MW while Bangladesh is also willing to import power. There is no problem for market” he said.
Addressing a session at the investment summit that began here on Sunday, he said tourism, agriculture and information technology are other good areas for investors.
Describing Nepal as a hub for agricultural production, he said that it is an excellent destination for those who want to invest in agriculture Furthermore, Information technology sector exported services worth 67 billion Nepali rupees last year.
With stability in the government policy, there is no market problem as Nepal lies between big neighboring countries like India and China.
The former Finance Minister said that there is a need for large commercial investment rather than small personal investment in Nepal.
