KATHMANDU: On the final day of Indra Jatra, women pulled the chariots of Ganesh, Bhairav and Kumari through Kathmandu on Tuesday. The chariots were taken around the traditional route amid music and festivities.
As part of ‘Nani Cha Ya’, observed on the final day of the festival, the chariots were taken from Basantapur through Pyaphal, Nardevi, Kilagal, Asan, Indra Chowk and Makhan before being brought back to Basantapur.
After the chariots return to Basantapur, one of the main rituals of Indra Jatra, the ceremony to lower the wooden pole from which the Indra flag has been flown, is performed.
The pole will be brought down tonight, pulled to the Bagmati River and immersed, formally marking the conclusion of this year’s Indra Jatra.
