Statement of Rabi Lamichhane in cooperative fraud case continues today

KATHMANDU: The statement of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair and suspended lawmaker Rabi Lamichhane, who is facing charges of cooperative fraud, money laundering, and organized crime, is set to continue today at the Kaski District Court.

Lamichhane’s statement began yesterday afternoon in Judge Nitij Rai’s courtroom and lasted for almost three hours.

Information Officer Suraj Adhikari confirmed that the remaining portion of his statement will be recorded today.

Lamichhane was previously taken to court on Monday and Tuesday, but his turn for a statement was delayed due to the ongoing statements of other defendants.

Former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, another key defendant in the case, completed his statement on Tuesday. Lila Pachhai’s statement followed, delaying Lamichhane’s turn.

The Kaski District Court will decide whether to release Lamichhane and other defendants on bail, schedule them for a regular trial date, or keep them in custody.

The Government Attorney’s Office in Kaski has filed charges against 44 individuals, including Lamichhane, accusing them of cooperative fraud.

Additionally, five individuals are listed as defendants solely for property confiscation related to the alleged crimes.

The charges against Lamichhane include organized crime, cooperative fraud, and money laundering. The case was filed on Sunday, marking the 92nd day since his arrest.
