KATHMANDU: A significant milestone was achieved with the launch of the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) in Khairahani municipality of Chitwan on Friday.

This pivotal project, initiated with financial support from India amounting to Rs. 36.74 million under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’, marks a collaborative effort between the two nations to drive local development.

The inauguration ceremony was jointly presided over by Shashi Kumar Khaniya, Mayor of Khairahani municipality, and Shri Avinash Kumar Singh, the First Secretary at the Embassy of India, Kathmandu.

The event witnessed the participation of public representatives, government officials, members of the project user committee, and dedicated social workers, symbolizing a united commitment to community advancement.

The HICDP, focusing on Embankment and Launching Apron Dhungre Khole River Training Works, holds the promise of addressing critical issues such as agricultural land erosion, deforestation, and the frequent displacement of locals due to river floods.

By enhancing resilience against natural calamities and mitigating risks associated with river dynamics, this project aims to uplift the livelihoods of residents in the region.

In a statement issued by the Embassy, this project underscores the enduring partnership between India and Nepal in fostering robust development initiatives at the grassroots level.

Highlighting the depth of collaboration, the Embassy noted that since 2003, the Indian government has undertaken over 551 HICDPs across Nepal spanning various sectors, successfully completing 489 projects.

The launch of the HICDP in Chitwan stands as a testament to the shared commitment of India and Nepal towards sustainable development and fostering resilience in local communities.”
