Province Chief Minya calls for unity to end discrimination



KAILALI: Chief of Sudur Paschim Province, Najir Minya, said people from all sectors could work together to create a society free of discrimination.

During a programme organized jointly by Dalit Development Service Centre, Dalit Women Rights Forum and the National Dalit Network here Wednesday, Chief Minya said neither the country nor the society could progress until the discrimination is wiped out.

“All sorts of discrimination need to be wiped out,” he reiterated.

He argued that although constitution has given adequate rights to Dalit community, genuine efforts are awaited for effective enforcement of the provisions.

On the occasion, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Hira Sarki, however, said the government was working effectively to make discrimination-free society. It needs all sides’ cooperation, he pointed out.

Minister for Social Development, Megharaj Khadka, informed that the province government was preparing law to establish rights to Dalit community.

The Dalit activists including province assembly member Laxmi BK and Lalit Sunar also spoke for the need of making a society that treats all people equally.
