CPN-UML holding Secretariat meeting on Wednesday

The CPN-UML has scheduled a meeting of its central Secretariat for this Wednesday.

Rajendra Gautam, head of the UML Central Publicity Department, confirmed that the gathering will be held at the party’s central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur.

Money laundering case filed against Rabi’s wife Nikita

A money laundering case has been filed against Nikita Poudel, the wife of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane, who is also implicated in a cooperative fraud case.

On Sunday, the District Government Attorney’s Office registered charge sheets against both Rabi Lamichhane, currently in Kaski Police custody, and his wife, Nikita, over fraud involving the Pokhara-based Surya Darshan Cooperative’s savings.

Nikita has been charged with money laundering. The case aims to seize any illegal assets found in her name.

Case filed against Rabi Lamichhane claiming Rs 270 million in money laundering

A case has been filed against Rabi Lamichhane, former Home Minister, who was arrested from Banasthali, Kathmandu, on charges of fraud involving the savings of a cooperative organization.

Shanti Devi Sharma, Assistant Attorney General of the District Attorney’s Office, Kaski, filed a case against Lamichhane, claiming over Rs 270 million in relation to money laundering.

The case alleges that Lamichhane has not disclosed the source of Rs 278,944,705, which is considered to be of illicit origin.

Rabi Lamichhane faces suspension as lawmaker following money laundering case

Rabi Lamichhane, the Chair of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is set to face automatic suspension from his position as a Member of Parliament following the registration of a money laundering case against him in the Kaski District Court.

Lamichhane, who has been elected twice from Chitwan Constituency No. 2, is facing severe charges, including money laundering, organized crime, and cooperative fraud. The case involves a claim of Rs 270 million in alleged illicit funds, which has led to questions about his political future as a lawmaker.

Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2007 (as amended), any individual holding a public office, such as an lawmaker, who faces a money laundering charge, is automatically suspended from their position until the case is resolved.

Rabi Lamichhane refutes fraud and money laundering allegations

Rabi Lamichhane, the Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has denied the charges of money laundering, cooperative fraud, and organized crime in his statement to the Kaski District Police.

The supplementary report prepared by the Kaski District Police Office, which spans 427 pages, includes a six-page section dedicated to Lamichhane’s defense.

His statement, spanning pages 16 to 22, addresses the accusations and provides his explanation for the financial transactions in question.

Asset confiscation sought in money laundering case against Nikita Poudel

The Kaski Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested the confiscation of assets linked to Nikita Poudel, wife of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane, in a money laundering case.

Poudel is listed as the 44th defendant in the case.

Among the assets targeted for confiscation is a house worth Rs 38.5 million, registered in Poudel ‘s name, located in Budhanilkantha Municipality, Kathmandu. The house was purchased on December 9, 2019.

Suspension notice for Rabi reaches Parliament

The Parliament has received a suspension notice for Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair and federal MP Rabi Lamichhane.

According to Padma Prasad Pandey, General Secretary of the Federal Parliament, the suspension notice was sent via email by the Kaski District Police Office and arrived on Sunday afternoon.

“We have received the email from the Kaski District Police Office,” Pandey stated, adding, “We will proceed with the matter as per legal procedures.”
