KATHMANDU: The Pathibhara Area Development Committee has announced its decision to initiate efforts to include the revered Pathibhara Temple in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In a recent meeting, the committee resolved to take significant steps to develop the Pathibhara Temple as an international heritage site, according to Prajin Hangbang, Executive Director of the committee.

To formalize the process, the committee plans to collaborate with the Department of Archaeology under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.

A formal request will be made to propose the inclusion of Pathibhara Temple on the prestigious World Heritage List, Hangbang said.

Pathibhara Temple is recognized as one of Nepal’s major Shaktipeeths. Shaktipeeths are sacred sites in Hinduism believed to be where parts of the goddess Sati’s body fell, embodying divine feminine energy and worshipped as centers of spiritual power.

Every year, millions of devotees, both domestic and international, visit the temple, drawn by the widespread belief that their wishes will be fulfilled by paying homage to the sacred site.

The committee noted that the number of pilgrims has been steadily increasing.

This initiative aims not only to highlight the religious and cultural prominence of Pathibhara but also to ensure its preservation and global recognition as a site of heritage value.
