Nepal govt to lift ban on TikTok

KATHMANDU: The ban on the small video-sharing platform TikTok in Nepal is being lifted.

The restriction, initially imposed by the government under then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ last year, is set to be lifted.

Under the current government led by Prime Minister KP Oli, efforts are underway to remove the ban.

In line with this development, some internet service providers have already restored access to TikTok.

The ban’s formal removal is expected to be approved in an upcoming Cabinet meeting, with a proposal anticipated from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

Sources within the Ministry indicated that preparations are in place to lift the restriction.

A regular meeting of the Council of Ministers is scheduled for today.
