KATHMANDU: Police have presented Durga Prasai, a medical entrepreneur, arrested for allegedly spreading misleading propaganda against Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli, to the Kathmandu District Court today to seek a remand extension.

Prasai was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) at his residence in Bhaktapur by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on charges of cybercrime.

He is being brought to court today after the medical examination and evidence collection took longer than anticipated.

Following his arrest, Prasai has been detained at the Nepal Police’s Cyber Bureau in Bhotahiti and will be initially investigated for cybercrime.

Prasai had previously campaigned with claims that Prime Minister Oli had invested Rs 33 billion in Cambodian Telecom.

He was also arrested in a prior cybercrime case related to the character assassination of a woman but was subsequently released.
