Multinational military exercise ‘Shanti Prayas IV’ commences in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: The multinational military exercise ‘Shanti Prayas IV’, comprising the army representatives from 19 countries participating in the United Nations Peace Keeping missions, has commenced in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, inaugurated the event in a program organized in the Nepali Army Headquarters in Bhadrakali, Kathmandu.

The Nepali Army and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command are co-hosting the multinational Shanti Prayas Exercise to be executed at the Birendra Peace Operations Training Center in Nepal with over 1,125 participants from 19 countries from February 20 to March 4, 2024.

This exercise will showcase Nepal’s expertise in peacekeeping and the United States’ unwavering support of the Nepali Army’s global mission for peace, according to the US Embassy in Kathmandu.

Both nations will collaborate with other partner nations to improve peacekeeping capabilities, strengthen military-to-military cooperation, and enhance the core peacekeeping operations competencies of all participants in accordance with UN doctrine.

It should be noted that the U.S. military and members of the Nepali Army have a long-standing relationship and routinely participate in joint exercises.
