Bir Hospital management committee enforces stricter attendance rules and service reforms

KATHMANDU: The Management Committee of the National Academy of Medical Sciences’ Bir Hospital has decided to tighten attendance management and improve service delivery across the hospital.

Under the new rules, staff arriving late must inform their respective department or group with valid reasons, and failure to meet the designated time will result in a half-day leave deduction. Doctors, healthcare workers, nurses, and administrative staff are required to be present during office hours and complete their responsibilities, while unavoidable absences must be communicated to administration through the respective in-charge.

Proposed office hours are set from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm starting Baisakh 1, and from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm during the winter period from Kartik 15 to Magh 15. The committee approved 14 key decisions aimed at improving hospital services, maintaining discipline, and strengthening management, according to hospital director Dr. Dilip Sharma.

To ensure cleanliness and attendance compliance, two committees have been formed: the Cleanliness Audit Committee, chaired by nursing administrator Sangeeta Shrestha, and the Attendance Audit Committee, chaired by assistant director Dr. Minchandra Adhikari. Doctors are required to clearly indicate their name, NMC number, and signature on patient forms, discharge summaries, and other reports, with violations subject to legal action. All healthcare staff must also wear their ID cards or aprons at all times.

The management committee has also introduced performance-based incentives for doctors and healthcare workers assigned to OT, cath lab, and evening sessions. Efforts will be made to improve pharmacy services, ensure drug availability, and provide quick service to patients, including a system to inform patients about drug stock.

Dr. Sharma stated that the meeting also focused on implementing the government-mandated health sector reform roadmap, aiming to make services at Bir Hospital more organized, transparent, and accountable.
