Gandaki Provincial Assembly set to kick off amidst political turmoil

KATHMANDU: The Gandaki Province is set to kick off its House Session starting this Friday.

Province Chief Dilliraj Bhatta has called for the session to commence at 3 PM today.

An anticipated highlight of this session is Chief Minister Khagaraj Adhikari’s expected move to seek a vote of confidence.

Adhikari’s tenure has been marked by controversy since his appointment, with questions surrounding the legitimacy of his leadership.

Adhikari’s claim to the post, backed by lawmakers including the Speaker of the assembly, has stirred debates within the province.

However, the Supreme Court’s intervention, with an order prohibiting any decisions with long-term implications regarding Adhikari’s appointment, adds further complexity to the situation.

Despite the pending court verdict, reports suggest that CM Adhikari is preparing to seek a vote of confidence before the court’s decision, intensifying the ongoing controversies.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress and Rastriya Prajatantra Party are poised to disrupt today’s House Session, arguing that convening the meeting amidst the current developments is unconstitutional.
