CMP pledges to strengthen legal framework for expedited transitional justice

KATHMANDU: The government has committed to promptly enacting legal provisions to accelerate the pending tasks of transitional justice, aiming to establish enduring peace in the nation.

The Common Minimum Program (CMP) of the ruling five-party coalition, unveiled at the Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday, underscores the importance of enacting legal measures to fast-track transitional justice.

“It is imperative to prioritize those impacted by the prolonged peace process and ascertain the truth based on facts,” the CMP emphasizes, further stating, “Resolving the grievances of conflict victims through justice, compensation, rehabilitation, forgiveness, and reconciliation should be pursued through dialogue.”

Additionally, the government has pledged to launch initiatives for the treatment, employment, self-employment opportunities, and rehabilitation of individuals who suffered injuries and disabilities during the conflict period.

Furthermore, as part of the government’s strategy, unjust imprisonments resulting from the Tarai-Madhesh movements and subsequent agreements with protesting groups will be addressed through legally sanctioned means.
