Finance Minister Paudel inquires on fluctuating capital market

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has enquired about the fluctuating share market.

The Finance Minister reached the office of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) at Bhadrakali on Wednesday and enquired why the share market was not stable.

“Sometime back, NEPSE registered over 3,000 points, ensuring transaction of Rs 30 billion on an average, while the index at present is at 2,570, limiting the transaction at Rs 5 to 6 billion. Why is it witnessing such fluctuation,” he wondered.

He further said although the political stability had given a positive message in the capital market, present bearish trend needs proper study. “Currently, we have a robust and stable government.

The interest rate at bank and financial institutions has declined. But the share market has not remained stable while it had reached 3,000 points. I want justification,” Finance Minister underlined.

He directed the concerned bodies to ensure capital market is sustainable, credible and technology friendly.

The NEPSE was directed to stay aware to curb unwanted activities as insider trading in share market. Senior officials at the ministry had joined the Minister during the inspection visit to the NEPSE.
