Former Speaker Damannath Dhungana passes away
Former Speaker Damannath Dhungana has passed away.
He died on Sunday afternoon while receiving treatment at Frontline Hospital in Kathmandu. Dhungana had been battling lung cancer.
He served as the Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2048 BS and was a prominent advocate for human rights.
RSP to launch second phase of protests from November 23
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has announced that it will begin the second phase of its protests from November 23 in opposition to the arrest of its chair, Rabi Lamichhane.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party’s Chaumati office on Sunday, RSP spokesperson Manish Jha revealed the plans for the protest and also mentioned that the list of candidates for the December 1 by-election will be made public by 5 PM today.
“We will release the list of by-election candidates at 5 PM today. Starting November 23, the second phase of the RSP’s protest will commence,” Jha stated. “Our movement will expand further.”
One dead, 29 injured in bus collision in Bandipur
A fatal collision between two passenger buses in Bandipur, Tanahun, has resulted in the death of one driver and injuries to at least 29 passengers.
The accident occurred on the Muglin-Pokhara road section near the New Bridge in Bandipur Municipality-5. According to Tanahun Police, three of the injured passengers are in critical condition.
Rescue efforts are underway, and the injured have been taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
By-election: Candidacy filing from 10 am to 5 pm today
Nominations for candidates in the upcoming by-election will be registered from 10 am to 5 PM today (Sunday), the Election Commission (EC) has announced.
The by-election is scheduled for December 1, with 44 vacant seats to be contested nationwide.
Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Nita Pokharel said that candidacy filings will take place at the election officer’s office in the respective local levels.
Prithvi Narayan unified Nepal; leaders ruined it: Mahato
Rajendra Mahato, who was once a minister in various ruling coalitions, now positions himself as a “self-proclaimed soft rebel” against the powers that be.
A graduate in humanities and a postgraduate in law, Mahato has consistently expressed dissatisfaction with the country’s Constitution.
Once known for his strong stance against communities outside the Terai-Madhesh region, Mahato is now forming an organization called the National Liberation Campaign, which he believes will unite all oppressed regions of the country.
Maoist Center and Unified Socialist agree to forge alliance in local by-elections in Kathmandu
The Maoist Center and Unified Socialist Party have reached an agreement to coordinate their efforts in the December 1 local by-elections scheduled.
As part of this agreement, they will collaborate on the election of the Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality in Kathmandu and the Chairmanship of Ward No. 16 in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Unified Socialist Party will support the Maoist Center’s candidate, Prof. Dr. Shivsharan Maharjan, for the position of Mayor of Kirtipur.
Gold price down by Rs 100 per tola today
Gold prices, which had seen a slight increase last Friday, have fallen again today.
After declining for five consecutive days last week, gold prices briefly rose on Friday, only to drop once more today.
According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation, the price of gold has decreased by 100 rupees per tola today.
Balen Shah not to endorse any candidate in Kathmandu’s by-election
Balen Shah, the Mayor of Kathmandu, will not be supporting any candidate in the upcoming local by-elections set for December 1, is secretariat has said.
As the by-elections for the mayor and two wards in Kirtipur, as well as Ward 16 of Kathmandu Metropolis, approach, many speculated that Balen might field a candidate.
However, the mayor’s office has confirmed that there will be no candidates endorsed by Mayor Shah, and he will not support any individual in the race.
Maoist-Socialist alliance announces joint candidacy for Kirtipur Mayor
In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming local by-elections on December 1, the two opposition parties, Maoist Center and Unified Socialist, have joined forces.
On Sunday, both parties submitted their candidacies in coordination for two local constituencies in the Kathmandu district.
As part of the agreement, Maoist Center’s candidate for Mayor of Kirtipur, Prof. Dr. Shiva Sharan Maharjan, will contest with the backing of the Unified Socialist.
