Kremlin refutes US claims of Russia’s nuclear capabilities in space

MOSCOW: The Kremlin on Thursday called US claims on alleged Russia’s plan to develop nuclear capabilities in space a “ploy” used by the White House to push Congress to approve more funding.

“It is obvious that the White House is trying, by hook or by crook, to push Congress to vote on a bill to allocate money,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov during a daily briefing.

“We will see what other tricks the White House will resort to,” Peskov said, adding that this scheme is quite obvious and apparent.

The White House said on Thursday that Russia is allegedly developing “an anti-satellite capability.”

John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the U.S. National Security Council, said however that no weapons have been deployed at the moment and there is “no immediate threat to anyone’s safety.”
