KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Chaurasiya, has stressed the need to amend the Nepal Bar Council Act to make the legal profession more systematic and dignified.
Speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly’s Committee for Legislation Management, Chaurasiya advocated for the Nepal Bar Council Act (Second Amendment) Bill.
He spoke about the importance of introducing provisions for disciplinary action and setting higher standards for senior advocates to enhance the legal profession’s structure.
He urged the Committee to pass the Bill after comprehensive discussions.
Uday Raj Sapkota, Secretary at the Ministry of Law, noted that the Bill proposes the establishment of a lawyers’ academy to provide further training for legal practitioners, along with several other new provisions.
Committee President Tulasha Kumari Dahal stated that after initial discussions, stakeholders and experts would be consulted before moving to a detailed, clause-by-clause review of the Bill.
