LALITPUR: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has stated that political activities disguised as religious practices should be prohibited.
While inaugurating the golden jubilee celebration of the Buddha Bihar Sangh in Lalitpur today, PM Oli emphasized that although Nepal is a secular state where everyone has the right to choose their religion, using religion for political purposes is unacceptable.
He stressed that the adoption of religion should promote nonviolence, peace, and unity, fostering an atmosphere of religious tolerance.
“The teachings of Buddhism and the principles of the Lord Buddha should not be exploited for political gain. Buddhism is fundamentally about peace, nonviolence, and humanity,” PM Oli noted.
He further highlighted that the core tenet of Buddhism is to respect all forms of life and that true followers of Buddhism are its real protectors.
He urged the need to engage the youth in spreading Buddhist teachings and promised his full support for such efforts.
The Prime Minister also recalled his participation in the International Buddhist Conference in Vietnam five years ago and mentioned the establishment of an international meditation center in Lumbini, which can accommodate 5,000 practitioners.
During the event, the Lotus Research Centre and Dundu Bahadur Bajracharya were recognized for their contributions to promoting Buddhist teachings and messages.
Additionally, Nani Kaji Shakya, Chairman of the Buddha Bihar Association in Lalitpur, remarked on how the Buddhist heritage created by ancestors has played a significant role in promoting tourism.
