Maoists will take the reins of power soon: Prachanda
Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, has claimed that the Maoist Center will form the next government by toppling the Prime Minister KP Oli-led government.
Speaking at a meeting of the Maoists’ Kavre-Kathmandu Liaison Committee on Saturday, Prachanda asserted that his party is the main opposition and, should the current government be toppled, the Maoists would take the reins of power.
“Yes, in this very hall, I once said that the number 32 is a ‘magic number.’ They must have been excited and agitated by my words, but it would have happened even if I hadn’t said it,” Prachanda remarked.
Constitution amendment is for national interest: Deuba
Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the constitution should be amended in the national interest. He said so while addressing a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union here on Friday.
On the occasion, he said that an agreement has been made to amend the constitution as per the national need, stressing that the two coalition partners – the Nepali Congress and the UML – were ready for the constitution amendment in the national interest, and other parties would also be taken on board in this process.
According to him, other parties will also be included to achieve the two-thirds majority required for the constitution amendment.
Finance Minister Paudel directs officials to meet revenue target
Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel has directed relevant government officials to work efficiently to meet the set tax collection targets.
He emphasized that the performance of the Inland Revenue Department and its subordinate offices should not fall behind, urging officials to step up their efforts.
Minister Paudel made these remarks while addressing a program on the occasion of National Tax Day, 2081, held in Kathmandu today.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the department’s performance, noting that it had weakened compared to the previous fiscal year. “You must be more serious about achieving the revenue target,” Paudel reiterated.
Govt functioning on common agenda: UML leader Pokhrel
CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has stated that the government is prioritizing the country’s development above all else.
Inaugurating the second municipal convention of the CPN-UML Suryabinayak Municipal Committee, he emphasized that the coalition government, led by party Chairman KP Sharma Oli, has moved past previous setbacks and is now focused on development with a positive outlook.
He remarked, “Although the government is led by CPN-UML, it has not been possible to make progress with a single decision or agenda. Instead, the government is operating on a shared, common agenda.”
Govt to expand tax base
Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, stated that the government’s priority is to expand the tax base, rather than raising tax rates.
Minister Bhandari outlined the government’s efforts to broaden the tax net and enhance the tax system.
“A strong state ensures the growth of robust industries and businesses. Therefore, revenue collection must exceed targets to strengthen the state,” he said. “No one is exempt from their obligation to contribute to revenue collection.”
Minister Bhandari also emphasized the need for greater cooperation between industrialists, government officials, and law enforcement agencies to combat revenue evasion, particularly in regions affected by open borders.
Maoist Center and Unified Socialist discuss electoral alliance
The CPN-Maoist Center and the Unified Socialist Party are in negotiations to form an electoral alliance for the upcoming local by-elections, scheduled for December 1.
While both parties are prepared to run independently, they are also open to collaboration where needed at the local level. Efforts are underway to unify the factions within the Samajwadi Front for the 44 constituencies up for election.
A leader from the Unified Socialist Party, speaking anonymously, mentioned that the party has not yet finalized its candidates in all constituencies but remains committed to cooperating based on the specific needs of each locality.
“We have confirmed candidates in only a few areas so far, and decisions are still pending in others. Our priority is to ensure unity among the parties of the Samajwadi Front, and in certain regions, we may coordinate with opposition parties,” the leader said.
APF–SSB 8th coordination meeting begins in Kathmandu
The 8th coordination meeting between Nepal’s Armed Police Force (APF) and India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) began in Kathmandu today. The meeting aims to enhance cross-border collaboration and coordination.
The discussions, which will continue until Sunday at the APF Headquarters in Halchowk, will focus on issues such as reducing and preventing border crimes, monitoring and curbing illegal activities, exchanging information, and jointly maintaining border pillars, according to APF Deputy Spokesperson Shailendra Thapa.
Key topics will include strengthening border security, controlling trans-border crimes, and ensuring robust coordination and information sharing between the two agencies.
One killed in motorcycle accident in Nawalparasi
A 21-year-old youth lost his life in a motorcycle accident on the Kaligandaki Corridor in Bulingtar, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East).
The accident occurred last night at Bhagbari in Bulingtar Rural Municipality-2 when the motorcycle lost control.
The deceased, identified as Bikash Thapa from Devghat Rural Municipality-2, Naram, in Tanahun, was critically injured and succumbed to his injuries during treatment this morning, according to the police.
Thapa was riding a motorcycle (registration number Na27Pa 248) heading towards Gaindakot from Bulingtar when the accident took place.
45% work completed on arch-design bridge over Madi River in Tanahun
Forty-five percent of the construction work on the arch-design bridge over the Madi River, part of the ongoing Muglin–Pokhara Road Project, has been completed.
The bridge connects wards 4 and 5 of Byas Municipality, according to the Eastern Section of the project.
Engineer Bishnu Prasad Pandey of the Muglin Pokhara Road Project (Eastern Section) stated that the bridge will feature six spans and span a total length of 315 meters.
Tributes paid to Gandaki lawmaker Bimala Gauchan
Tributes were paid to Gandaki Province MP Bimala Gauchan today by draping her body with the national flag.
Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Surendra Raj Pandey, and Provincial Assembly Deputy Speaker, Binakumari Thapa, draped the national flag over Gauchan’s body during a ceremony held at the Provincial Assembly premises in Nadipur, Pokhara. Her body was placed at the assembly grounds for the tribute.
Nepali Congress Gandaki Province President, Shukraraj Sharma, honored her by placing the party flag over her body. The Thakali Service Committee also paid tribute following their traditional practices.
