LONDON: The Guardian said it will stop posting from its official accounts on Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, due to growing concerns about the site’s content.

In a statement to its readers, the news outlet explained that the negatives of being on X, formerly Twitter, now outweigh the benefits, pointing to the “often disturbing content” on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism.

The Guardian noted that it had been contemplating this move for some time, and the platform’s coverage of the US presidential election further solidified their decision, highlighting how X has become a “toxic media platform” under Musk’s ownership, which has influenced political discourse.

Although it will no longer post directly from its official accounts, the Guardian clarified that its articles can still be shared by users on X, and occasional posts may be embedded in its live reporting.

Reporters will also continue using the platform for news gathering, following the organization’s existing social media guidelines.
