Giribandhu Tea Estate is not state property, claims Director Chhatra Giri
Chhatra Giri, director of Giribandhu Tea Estate Pvt. Ltd, Birtamod, has asserted that the estate is not state property. During a press conference on Wednesday, Giri stated that Giribandhu Tea Estate is owned by him and his family and accused others of raising unnecessary disputes. He claimed that the estate is ancestral property earned by his forefathers, and therefore, it cannot be considered state property. Giri explained that the tea estate was developed by his forefathers before the implementation of the Land Act in 1964.
Maoist Center demands 24-hour clarification from Devkota for ‘floor crossing’ in Gandaki
The CPN-Maoist Center has issued a 24-hour clarification notice to Gandaki Province Assembly member Phanindra Devkota for ‘floor crossing’ and supporting Chief Minister Surendra Pandey in a confidence vote. Kusum Budha, Chief Whip of the Maoist Center in Gandaki Province, stated that the notice was issued to Devkota for violating the party whip and acting against party regulations. Devkota, a leader of the Dr. Baburam Bhattarai’s Nepal Socialist Party, was elected from Gorkha in the 2022 elections under the Maoist Center’s electoral symbol.
SC issues show cause order against decisions of Madhes govt
The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show cause order against the Madhes Province government’s decision to distribute money to its lawmakers. A single bench of Judge Sharanga Subedi issued the order on Wednesday, summoning the government for a discussion. The first meeting of the Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh, had earlier decided to allocate projects worth Rs 50 million to lawmakers elected through the direct election system and Rs 10.5 million to those elected by the proportional election system.
NEPSE rises by single digits, trading volume exceeds Rs 5.89 Billion
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) maintained its position above the 2100 mark on Wednesday, which it crossed on Tuesday. NEPSE, which increased by 8.90 points on Monday and 33.15 points on Tuesday, increased by 6.38 points today. NEPSE rose by 0.30 percent today, reaching 2121.62 points. Transaction amount reached over Rs 5.89 billion, with a total of 129,504,407 shares changing hands in 74,858 transactions.
Bangladesh decides to import electricity from Nepal
Bangladesh has officially decided to import electricity from Nepal, initially agreeing to purchase 40 megawatts. On Tuesday, the 15th meeting of the Bangladeshi Cabinet, chaired by Finance Minister Abdul Hossain Mohammad Ali at the Bangladesh Secretariat, approved the proposal to import 40 megawatts of electricity from Nepal. Since the electricity has to transported via India, the Bangladesh government has decided to pay India a commercial margin of RS 0.059 per unit.
NEA’s advanced data center comes into operation
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has launched an advanced data center of international standards. Located next to the load dispatch center in Syuchatar, Kathmandu, the state-of-the-art data center has been developed to provide future services to commercial companies. The three-story prefabricated building houses several facilities. The ground floor features a control room for monitoring, regulating, and securing the Kathmandu Valley’s underground power distribution system. The first floor contains office and network operation rooms, while the top floor hosts the data center.
JSP Nepal Convention: Upendra Yadav elected Chairman unanimously
Upendra Yadav has been re-elected Chairman of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal during the ongoing party convention. According to party sources, Yadav has been re-elected the Chairman unanimously. The convention will elect a 201-member central committee and 20 office bearers, according to Manish Suman, the spokesperson of JSP Nepal. Suman detailed that the party’s leadership structure will include one Chairman, one Assistant Vice Chairman, one Vice Chairman, two General Secretaries, three Deputy General Secretaries, seven Secretaries, and one Treasurer.
