Lumbini and Sudurpaschim to witness heatwave for three days

KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division has issued a warning of hot winds prevailing over the Terai region of Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces for the next three days.

In recent days, the plains of Lumbini and the Sudurpaschim have experienced scorching temperatures, with some areas recording highs of 40 degrees Celsius or above.

On Monday, Dhangadhi reached a scorching 44 degrees Celsius, while Nepalgunj soared to 43.6 degrees Celsius, Dipayal to 40.7 degrees Celsius, and Birendranagar to 40.9 degrees Celsius.

Similar extreme temperatures were recorded on Sunday and Saturday, with Friday seeing slightly lower but still sweltering conditions.

As of Tuesday morning, Dhangadhi registered a blistering 44.0 degrees Celsius, Dipayal 40.7 degrees Celsius, Birendranagar 40.9 degrees Celsius, and Nepalgunj at 43.6 degrees Celsius.

The Weather Forecasting Division has analyzed the situation and predicts the possibility of a heatwave in the central and western Terai areas over the next few days.

As a precautionary measure, the Division has advised making necessary preparations and taking precautions against the extreme heat, which can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, dehydration, headache, and muscle cramps.

To mitigate the effects of the heatwave, the Division has recommended to stay indoors, wear light and cotton clothing, cover the head when venturing outside, stay hydrated, and seek medical assistance if experiencing health issues.

Meanwhile, monsoon activity has been observed in the Koshi Province, with rainfall reported in areas including Ilam.

This year, the monsoon arrived three days earlier than usual, entering Nepal from the eastern side on Monday.

The Weather Forecasting Division has anticipated that the monsoon to take approximately three days to spread across the entire country.
