Government to receive Rs 1.2 billion in grants from WWF



KATHMANDU: The government has announced its decision to accept approximately Rs 1.2 billion in grants facilitated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and sourced from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma disclosed this information during a news conference held recently to communicate the Council of Ministers’ decisions made on Thursday.

Minister Sharma further informed that the cabinet has also sanctioned the reimbursement of Rs 2.83 million to stakeholders.

This amount was utilized to repatriate the remains of six Nepalis who tragically lost their lives in Israel, facilitating their return from Tribhuvan International Airport.

In addition to these decisions, the cabinet meeting endorsed the scheduled visits of various officials.

National Planning Commission Member Prof Dr Shivaraj Adhikari is set to visit Bangladesh, while Commission of Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Commissioner Dr Sumitra Shrestha Amatya will travel to Malaysia on different dates.

Likewise, Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet’s participation in the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia, has been approved.

Furthermore, Minister Sharma disclosed that the concerned authorities have been given the green light to acquire 50 ropani of land in Surkhet and Dailekh districts for the development of towers for the Kohalpur-Surkhet-Dailekh 132 KV transmission line.
