DHANGADHI: The Nagarik Unmukti Party is set to assume leadership in the Sudurpaschim Province government, signaling a shift in power dynamics in the province.

As per the recent agreement among the coalition parties, the Nagarik Unmukti Party will spearhead the administration in the Sudurpaschim Province.

Sources revealed that Kailash Chaudhary, representing the Ranjita Shrestha faction of the party, is slated to assume the role of Chief Minister.

Presently, Nagarik Unmukti Party commands six seats in the Sudurpaschim Province.

However, a recent controversy ensued when Ranjita recalled Indira Giri, alleging non-compliance with directives, resulting in her dismissal from the provincial assembly.

Out of the remaining six MPs, only two stand in support of the Nagarik Unmukti Party Chairperson Ranjita.

The Nagarik Unmukti Party is entitled to one ministerial and one state ministerial position, besides the Chief Ministerial role.

Internal discord within party has surfaced due to the rift between Chairperson Ranjita and Patron Resham Chaudhary.

Ranjita’s decision to appoint Kailash Chaudhary as the leader, ousting Ghanashyam Chaudhary, has sparked contention within the party.

The Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly comprises 53 members, with the current composition standing at 51 MPs.

To secure a majority, 26 votes are required.

Presently, the coalition consists of 31 MPs, comprising 11 from the Maoist Center, 10 from CPN-UML, 6 from Nagarik Unmukti Party, and 4 from the Unified Socialist Party.

Furthermore, the assembly includes 18 members from the Nepali Congress, one member from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and an independent MP.
