CHITWAN: BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur has introduced advanced urological surgery services with the adoption of a state-of-the-art laser machine, the Thulium Fiber Laser (TFL).
Dr. Umesh Nepal, Deputy Director and urologist at the hospital, explained that TFL is the latest technology in endourology, which focuses on minimally invasive procedures.
He noted that previous laser technologies in urology had issues with tearing effects, but the adoption of TFL eliminates this problem.
“With this technology, bleeding during surgery is minimal, and the risk is significantly reduced as tissue penetration is not invasive,” Dr. Nepal said.
He added that the hospital performs approximately 450 surgeries for bladder cancer and 100 for prostate cancer annually, and the TFL technology will be highly beneficial for these patients.
On the first day of its installation, the hospital successfully conducted three surgeries using the new technology.
Dr. Shivaji Poudel, Executive Director of the hospital, emphasized their commitment to providing advanced and accessible services to patients by incorporating modern technology.
He also mentioned that the hospital attracts patients from across Nepal and even from bordering areas of India.
