Private sector happy with ordinances aimed at economic revival: FNCCI

KATHMANDU: Private sector organizations, including the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), have expressed gratitude to the government, applauding the recently issued ordinances aimed at bolstering Nepal’s investment and business environment.

At a program held at the Prime Minister’s Residence in Baluwatar, representatives from FNCCI, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), and the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) praised the government for its efforts.

Present at the event were Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and other cabinet members.

FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal, CNI President Rajesh Kumar Agrawal, NCC President Kamlesh Agrawal, and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Bhagirath Sapkota emphasized the importance of timely implementation of these ordinances.

They highlighted that appropriate regulations and procedures could provide much-needed momentum to the private sector, which is still reeling from the economic downturn caused by the Covid pandemic.

The ordinances, Dhakal said, have the potential to invigorate the private sector and contribute to achieving the national vision of a “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.”

On January 13, President Ram Chandra Paudel, upon the government’s recommendation, approved four ordinances addressing various economic sectors. An additional ordinance related to land management is reportedly under consideration at his office.

Prime Minister Oli, speaking at the program, dismissed rumors of government instability and reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to effective policymaking.

He underlined the collective resolve to promote development and good governance, adding that prosperity is achievable with practical and supportive policies.

“The people desire development and good governance, except for those who oppose progress for personal interests,” said Oli. “With the right strategies, we can realize the goal of national prosperity.”
