KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has implemented the election code of conduct for the parliamentary by-election scheduled for April 27 in Ilam constituency-2 and the Provincial Assembly 1(A) in Bajhang.

The by-elections will be held for the House of Representatives (HoR) in Ilam and the Provincial Assembly in Bajhang.

The primary objective of the election code of conduct is to ensure that the electoral process is conducted in a transparent, impartial, and secure manner.

According to EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel, the code of conduct applies to political parties, election candidates, affiliated organizations, and all stakeholders. Violations of the code of conduct are subject to legal consequences.

Additionally, the code sets expenditure limits for political parties and candidates.

Pre-election campaigns, including publicity campaigns, rallies, mass meetings, corner meetings, and the use of transportation and media, must adhere to the provisions outlined in the code of conduct.

The enforcement of the election code of conduct underscores the commitment to uphold democratic principles and facilitate fair and credible elections.

It serves as a framework to guide the behavior of all parties involved in the electoral process, promoting transparency and accountability in the democratic process.
