KATHMANDU: Families who lost loved ones in the armed conflict have pledged their support for the ongoing consideration of the TRC (Transitional Justice) bill in Parliament.
In a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Tuesday, the conflict victims’ families expressed their commitment to not impede the progress of the bill.
Their appeal emphasized addressing the demands of families affected by the conflict, particularly security personnel, within the TRC bill. They made it clear that despite their grievances, they won’t obstruct the bill’s passage due to the government’s equitable treatment of both sides, state forces, and rebel groups during the conflict.
During the meeting, Rita Karki, the senior vice-chairperson representing these families, expressed confidence in the Prime Minister’s ability to address the concerns of conflict-affected individuals, citing his close observance and experience with the agonies, fear and helplessness of the victims.
Prime Minister Dahal reassured the families that the government has strived for equal treatment of those impacted by the conflict, pledging to review and rectify aspects within the TRC bill to prevent future discrimination.
