Mt Dhaulagiri disaster: Five Russian climbers found dead
Five Russian mountaineers lost their lives while attempting to summit Mt Dhaulagiri.
Rakesh Gurung, the Ddirector of the Department of Tourism, stated that their bodies were discovered at an elevation of 7,600 meters on Tuesday morning.
The group, consisting of 14 Russian climbers, had arrived in Nepal around three weeks prior for an expedition organized by IAM Trekking & Expeditions.
Eight members of the group lost contact during their ascent on Sunday night.
Govt identifies 59 local levels as disaster-hit areas
The government has declared 59 local levels across 18 districts as disaster areas due to the extensive damage caused by floods and landslides following the recent incessant rains.
However, the specifics regarding which municipalities are affected have yet to be disclosed, leaving many of the declared municipalities unaware of their crisis status.
During a Council of Ministers meeting, ministers recognized the devastation in these local levels, which were impacted by heavy rainfall.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority Executive Committee recommended that the government categorize the most affected districts as disaster-prone areas.
Melamchi drinking water distribution begins in Kathmandu
The distribution of Melamchi water has commenced in the Kathmandu Valley.
Water Supply Minister Pradeep Yadav launched the initiative today from the processing center at Sundarijal in Kathmandu.
Ratna Prasad Lamichhane, Executive Director of the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee, stated that water from the treatment center in Sundarijal has been sent to various distribution branches of Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Limited (KUKL).
BP Highway to be operational within a week: Home Minister
Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that arrangements will be made to allow vehicles to travel on the BP Highway, which has been blocked due to recent disasters, within the next week, including necessary diversions.
Speaking at a program following his inspection of the flood- and landslide-affected areas in Khurkot, Sindhuli, Home Minister Lekhak stated that the road department and the Nepali Army are prepared to temporarily reopen the BP Highway, which suffered significant damage from heavy rains.
“There has been extensive damage on the BP Highway, but we will make arrangements for vehicle passage with diversions within a week,” he affirmed.
Polish citizen dies in course of trekking
Sowinska Agnieszka, 23, from Poland died while trekking around the Suryakunda area, the border of Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts last night.
According to the Rasuwa District Police Office Chief Keshab Bhattarai, Agnieszka with passport number ‘FE 3051811’ died and her body was retrieved with the help of the Nepali Army Shreenath Battalion.
Govt opens 57 more peaks for climbing
The Government of Nepal has decided to open 57 additional peaks for climbing, as announced during a cabinet meeting.
This initiative aims to enhance accessibility to Nepal’s diverse mountain range, which has many peaks that have previously been off-limits for mountaineering.
The plan will be managed by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, with the Department of Tourism responsible for the implementation and oversight.
Gold traded at Rs 160,100 per tola today
KATHMANDU: The price of gold in the domestic market decreased by Rs 400 per tola on Tuesday.
The Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Associations stated that fine gold was traded at Rs 160,100 per tola, down from Rs 160,500 per tola yesterday.
In addition, the price of silver also dropped by Rs 40 per tola, and was traded at Rs 1,940 per tola, compared to Rs 1,980 per tola on Monday.
EC and Women Commission submit annual reports to President
The Election Commission (EC) and the National Women Commission have submitted their annual reports to President Ramchandra Paudel.
The reports, incorporating the works carried out by the two constitutional bodies in the fiscal year 2080-81 (2023-24), were presented to the Head of State amid separate programmes held at the Office of the President in Shital Niwas today.
Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya and National Women Commission Chairperson Kamala Parajuli presented the annual report of their respective commissions.
NHRC to remain open during Dashain holidays
The central, provincial, and branch offices of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will remain open from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM during the Dashain holidays.
According to NHRC Spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokharel, the commission’s services will be available as usual during this time.
During the holidays, the NHRC will accept complaints related to human rights violations and may conduct emergency monitoring of serious incidents as needed.
Chandragiri’s VLR report to be presented in UN
Chandragiri Municipality has prepared its Voluntary Local Review (VLR) report to localize some thematic areas of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The municipality came up with the report as an outcome document of arduous efforts in a year.
It includes the goals related to education, health, gender equality, drinking and hygiene, safe, clean and accessible city among others in the review.
‘Jet boat’ service resumes in Saptakoshi River
Jet boat service has been brought into re-operation in the Saptakoshi River in Chatara of Sunsari from Monday onward.
Chief District Officer Ramchandra Tiwari informed that the jet boat service has resumed easing the movement through Saptakoshi.
CDO Tiwari informed that the operation of the jet boat has been resumed with the fall in water level and flow in Saptakoshi.
The Sunsari administration had banned the operation of the jet boat at Saptakoshi with the onset of the monsoon season.
