Constitution to be amended with political consensus: NC President Deuba

Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba stated that the constitution would be amended through consensus among political parties.

Speaking to the media at Biratnagar Airport today, he emphasized that discussions would be held with various parties to forge the necessary agreement, as a two-thirds majority is required for any constitutional amendment.

Deuba, also a former Prime Minister, clarified that no loan-related agreements have been signed under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s recent visit to China, expressing his appreciation for this.

NPL: Pokhara registers 10-wicket win over Lumbini

Pokhara Avengers secured their first win in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) with a commanding 10-wicket victory over Lumbini Lions, powered by a brilliant century from Andries Gous.

Gous, along with Dinarsh Kharel, put together a record-breaking opening partnership as Pokhara chased down Lumbini’s target of 171 runs in just 16.5 overs.

Gous finished unbeaten on 104, becoming the first player to score a century in the NPL. His blistering knock, which included 12 boundaries and 5 sixes, came off just 55 balls.

Gous reached his century in style, hitting a boundary off Vivek Yadav on the last ball of the 16th over.

Dr. Bhattarai alleges political vendetta behind Rabi’s arrest

Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai met Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, who is currently in the custody of Kaski Police.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Dr. Bhattarai alleged that a political vendetta was being carried out against Rabi Lamichhane and that the issue surrounding the cooperative scandal was being diverted for political gain.

Dr. Bhattarai claimed that those responsible for embezzling funds from the cooperative were closely connected to the state government.

King Jigme of Bhutan visits Baudhanath, offers prayers

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan visited Baudhanath and offered prayers on Friday.

Following his visit to Swayambhunath, the King continued on to Baudhanath.

Officials from the Swayambhu Management and Conservation Mahasamiti welcomed the Bhutanese King at the Swayambhu premises.

The King spent about half an hour at Swayambhu, taking in the panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley.

He arrived in Kathmandu on Friday morning, leading a 19-member delegation aboard a Druk Air flight.

Lottery system appropriate to make judiciary transparent, trustworthy: CJ Raut

Chief Justice (CJ) Prakash Man Singh Raut has said assigning cases through lottery system has been adopted to make judiciary transparent and trustworthy.

CJ Raut said so at a news conference organized at the Supreme Court today to observe the practice of assigning cases to the judges through lottery system.

“With the introduction of the lottery system for cause list, the initiatives of making judiciary transparent and credible have been fulfilled,” he shared.

The Chief Justice mentioned, “The bench comes across some new issues every day and discussion is held on the old cases as well as the settled cases.”

Govt’s treatment of Rabi Lamichhane a violation of human rights: RSP

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has alleged that the diary of its Chairman, Rabi Lamichhane, went missing while in custody.

On Friday, RSP acting spokesperson Manish Jha issued a statement claiming that the government has treated Lamichhane unfairly, likening it to criminal treatment, and appealed to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) as well as national and international human rights advocates.

Gold price drops by Rs 600 per tola today

The price of gold, which had increased for two consecutive days, decreased today, while silver became more expensive, according to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation.

Today, the price of gold dropped by Rs 600 per tola, bringing it to Rs 150,100. Yesterday, it was priced at Rs 150,700 per tola.

Last week, the price of gold had fallen sharply by Rs 18,500 per tola over two days.

Meanwhile, the price of silver has risen by Rs 10 per tola today, increasing to Rs 1,890. Yesterday, silver was priced at Rs 1,880 per tola.

Seti hydel project begins commercial power generation

The Seti Hydropower Project located at Machhapuchchhre Rural Municipality in the district of Kaski has started commercial power generation.

The project with a capacity of 25 megawatts commenced commercial power generation after completing the tests of power plant, interconnection and commissioning.

Chairman of the company Jag Bahadur Pokharel told the RSS that the power generated from the project was connected to the system of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

NC calls Work Execution Committee meeting to review PM’s China visit

The Nepali Congress (NC) has called for a meeting of its Central Work Execution Committee to review Prime Minister KP Oli’s recent China visit.

The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday at the residence of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budhanilkantha.

Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel stated that the office bearers and members of the Central Working Committee have been invited to attend the meeting.
