KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that no violence against women (VAW) would be tolerated.

He made this assertion while receiving, at the Ministry of Home Affairs today, a memorandum handed by 26 local civil society organizations in the context of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence.

On the occasion, Home Minister Lekhak said that the government is committed to ending all forms of violence against women.

Stating that he is also serious about safety of women in foreign employment, he said the government apparatuses were active in protecting the women from exploitation and mistreatment.

“Women are suffering from abuse through social sites and digital media as well in recent period. In a democracy, one can criticize, protest and express one’s views, but in a decent and courteous manner,” the Home Minister emphasized, adding that initiatives are being made to check the hate comments and violence and abuse that is seen in the digital media.

According to the Home Minister, the Ministry is preparing to table the Integrated Election Bill in the upcoming session of the parliament.

The Bill is formulated to ensure the proportional representation as per the spirit of the constitution.
