Energy Minister meets ISA President to discuss solar initiatives



KATHMANDU: Deepak Khadka, Nepal’s Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, met with Prahlad Venkatesh Joshi, President of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and India’s Minister of New and Renewable Energy, at the Bharat Mandap Center in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The meeting centered on key issues such as sustainable development, climate change mitigation, and the transition to clean energy.

Khadka expressed optimism about working with the ISA to implement a solar roadmap for Nepal, which includes leveraging solar energy for health, education, tourism, and solar irrigation projects.

He also highlighted the importance of establishing a solar technology center to foster innovation and growth in this sector.

During the meeting, Khadka extended Nepal’s support for India’s candidate, Ashish Khanna, who was elected as the Director General of ISA, wishing him a successful tenure.

He further requested assistance in developing a 1,000-megawatt floating solar project on the Budhigandaki hydropower reservoir.

In response, Joshi assured that ISA funds would be available to support the advancement of solar projects in Nepal.

The meeting also included senior energy experts from Nepal’s Ministry, such as Prabal Adhikari, Director General of the Power Development Department, and representatives from the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, emphasizing the collaborative efforts in advancing solar energy initiatives.
