Chandraghanta Goddess worshiped today on the third day of Dashain
On the third day of Dashain, Goddess Chandraghanta is being revered at various temples and homes across the country.
People have flocked to sacred sites since morning.
According to tradition, worship of Durga Bhawani begins on Ashwin Shukla Pratipada and continues until Dashain Purnima.
Update: Disaster-induced death toll climbs to 239
The number of people who lost their lives in the recent late monsoon-induced disaster has reached 239.
So far, 239 people have been confirmed dead while 18 more are still missing in the floods and landslides that occurred in the country last week.
A total of 178 people were injured in the disaster-induced incidents, said Rishiram Tiwari, spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Dahal announces Maoists will contest elections independently
CPN Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, declared that his party will independently contest the upcoming by-elections and the 2027 elections across all levels.
During a meeting organized by the party’s district committee, he stressed that previous alliances with the Nepali Congress and UML had diluted the Maoist identity.
Dahal said that the party is now preparing for a solo campaign, starting with the local level by-elections scheduled for December 1.
Cooperatives fraud victims protesting against Rabi detained by police
Police have detained cooperatives fraud victims protesting against Rabi Lamichhane, the chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Member of Parliament for Chitwan Constituency No. 2.
The incident occurred on Saturday during an event in Chitwan, where victims of the Sahara Cooperative fraud demonstrated by marching with banners and slogans. As they approached the venue, police dispersed them at the Lions Chowk in Narayangadh.
Nepal Airlines cabin crew ends protest over age limit after talks with Civil Aviation Minister
Nepal Airlines cabin crew have agreed to end their protest demanding the removal of the 45-year age limit after productive discussions with Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Pandey.
On Saturday, following a two-stage dialogue with both protesting parties and representatives of Nepal Airlines, it was decided that the airline would reconsider the age limit.
Minister Pandey facilitated the discussions, which led to an agreement to initiate changes in the airline’s regulations.
Jhalnath Khanal Calls for PM Oli’s resignation
Jhala Nath Khanal, a leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist), has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli.
During a food distribution event for flood victims in Balkhu, Kathmandu, on Saturday, Khanal stated that the government’s inadequate preparation for natural disasters has resulted in significant loss of lives and property, leading to the public facing serious issues. He insisted that the current government should resign.
Road collapse halts Manthali-Kathmandu traffic
Traffic along the Manthali-Kathmandu route, which was operational just three days ago, has been severely disrupted since this morning due to the floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall on September 26 and 27.
The situation has worsened after a section of the road was washed away on the bank of the Tamakoshi River at Jamire, near Malukhola, in Melung Rural Municipality, Dolakha.
The disaster has halted vehicular movement, blocking cargo and passenger vehicles heading to Kathmandu from Ramechhap, Solu, and Okhaldhunga. The road leading from Manthali to Nepalthok-Kathmandu via Khurkot was damaged due to flood on Saturday.
Suspension bridge connecting two districts at risk due to flood in Trishuli River
A suspension bridge linking Tanahu with Chitwan district is in danger of collapse due to raging Trishuli River.
The torrential rain of September 27, 28 and 29 swelled the river, thereby posing a threat to the bridge which is the sole alternative route for local residents at Aanbookhareni Rural Municipality Ward No 5 to cross the district.
Chairperson of Aanbookhaireni Rural Municipality-5 Santosh Gurung shared that local residents had been facing problems in travelling to another district due to precarious condition of the bridge following the flooded river.
