LONDON: In a historic victory, the Labour Party has triumphed in the UK general election, marking a significant shift in the nation’s political landscape.
Labour leader Keir Starmer will assume the role of Prime Minister following the decisive win.
“We did it,” Starmer proclaimed, highlighting the start of a new era for the UK.
“Change begins now,” he added, signaling a fresh direction for the country.
The election results delivered a stark message to the Conservative Party, with outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak acknowledging Britain’s “sobering verdict.”
The Conservative Party suffered major setbacks, losing several high-profile members, including Defence Secretary Grant Shapps, Jacob Rees-Mogg, and Penny Mordaunt.
In a surprising turn, Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, won a seat in Parliament for the first time, with party members Richard Tice and Lee Anderson also securing victories.
Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn retained his seat in Islington North as an independent candidate, while Labour’s Jon Ashworth was unseated by an independent challenger.
The Green Party saw success as well, with Carla Denyer winning Bristol Central from Labour.
Meanwhile, Scottish First Minister John Swinney described the night as “very, very difficult and damaging” for the SNP, reflecting significant losses for his party.
