Chief Minister Yadav fails the floor test, JSP-led alliance garners 50 votes

JANAKPURDHAM: The Chief Minister of Madhes, Saroj Kumar Yadav, has lost the vote of confidence, leading to the downfall of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP)-led government in the province.

After failing to garner a vote of confidence in the meeting held in Janakpur-based Madhes Provincial Assembly on Wednesday, Yadav had to step down.

In the 107-member Provincial Assembly, Yadav could only secure 50 votes in favor of the confidence motion he had sought, while 53 votes were cast against it.

To sustain the government, the Chief Minister needed at least 54 votes.

Yadav received votes of confidence from JSP Nepal, Nepali Congress (NC), Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

On the opposing side, CPN-UML, Janamat Party, CPN-Maoist Center, and CPN-Unified Socialist cast their votes against the motion.
