Floods and landslides inflict approximately Rs 25 billion in damage to road infrastructure

The recent spate of natural disasters, driven by relentless rainfall, has inflicted approximately Rs 25 billion in damage to road infrastructure.

Of this, an estimated Rs 3 billion is needed for temporary repairs of affected roads and bridges, while full reconstruction costs could reach Rs 20-25 billion.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, detailed the impact of flooding and landslides that occurred on September 27-28.

He noted that efforts are underway to temporarily restore affected roadways and highways.

The disasters impacted 34 highways across 805 locations, with debris from landslides cleared from 774 sites so far.

Prachanda critiques govt response to floods

Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman Maoist Center, has criticized the government for its inadequate response to the recent floods, despite prior weather forecasts.

He emphasized that the state apparatus did not take immediate action for rescue operations. Dahal called for a thorough investigation into the failures that led to the lack of prompt rescue efforts, even in the federal capital, stressing that such situations must not recur in the future.

Mustang sees increased visitor traffic

Recent weeks have seen a notable rise in tourist arrivals in Mustang, with popular destinations such as Muktinath Temple, Kagbeni, Korola Point, Lomanthang, Sinja Jong Cave, Jomsom, Dhumwa Lake, Thini, Marfa, and Lete reporting increased visitor traffic.

Pramod Regmi, Chief of the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP) Jomsom Office, confirmed the surge in both domestic and international tourists in the area. Domestic visitors are arriving by road and air, while more international travelers are exploring Thorangla, Upper Mustang, and the Jomsom vicinity.

Foreign Minister Rana returns home

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana, who was leading the Nepali delegation at the third Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) conference in Doha, Qatar, engaged in various bilateral meetings.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rana returned home today after participating in the meeting of women foreign ministers in Toronto, Canada, the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, and the ACD conference in Doha, Qatar.

Gold prices soar to new heights

The price of gold has once again set a new record, rising to unprecedented levels.

Today, the price of gold increased by Rs 400 per tola, reaching an all-time high of Rs 161,300.

According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation, this is the highest price ever recorded. Just yesterday (Thursday), gold was priced at Rs 160,900 per tola.

Tourist arrivals in Manang surge from mid-September

The flow of domestic and foreign tourists in Manang district has significantly increased since mid-September.

On Tuesday, a total of 286 tourists entered Manang, marking the highest single-day arrival this season.

The following day saw another 140 tourists visit, according to Bhupendra Gurung of the Tourism Information Centre in Dharapani.

Brahmacharini Goddess worshiped today on the second day of Dashain

On the second day of Dashain, Goddess Brahmacharini is being revered at various temples and homes across the country.

People flocked to sacred sites since morning.

According to tradition, worship of Durga Bhawani begins on Ashwin Shukla Pratipada and continues until Dashain Purnima.

Yesterday, on the first day of Dashain, Shailiputri Devi was honored during Ghatasthapana.
