NC issues ultimatum demanding probe committee on Home Minister Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary, Bishwaprakash Sharma, has raised concerns over the absence of an inquiry committee regarding Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s involvement in a cooperative fraud case.

Speaking during today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, NC leader Sharma reiterated the NC’s stance, insisting on a parliamentary inquiry against the Home Minister concerning the cooperative case.

Sharma also dismissed reports that NC had offered the post of Prime Minister to Rabi Lamichhane before the formation of the new alliance.

“There’s no ambiguity now. The post of Prime Minister hasn’t even been offered to him (Lamichhane),” Sharma emphasized, debunking any speculation.

“We must dispel the illusion that anyone has been offered the Prime Minister’s post without proper decision-making,” Sharma added.

Taking a jab at Lamichhane, Sharma questioned why he didn’t accept the Prime Minister’s offer if he was hesitant to serve as Home Minister.

“If someone who objected to being Home Minister was offered the Prime Minister’s position, why decline?” Sharma pondered.

“In the cooperative fraud case, we’re simply demanding a parliamentary inquiry committee,” Sharma clarified, underlining the party’s objective.

Sharma continued his critique, asserting that even public figures, including politicians, are subject to scrutiny.

“No one, not even the most revered, is exempt from scrutiny. Accountability is fundamental,” Sharma remarked.

Expressing disappointment in the lack of initiative from the government, Sharma emphasized the urgency of forming a parliamentary committee.

“Our ultimatum regarding the formation of the parliamentary committee expires today,” he declared.

“The government must ensure its establishment before the next meeting, or face consequences,” he added.
